We caught up with home reno and interior design
power couple, Kyal and Kara, and got
their styling tips for Christmas Day.

The must have on your Christmas table…

Florals, foliage and candles are my “go-to” when styling a table and Christmas is no exception. This year I’m working with the rust, clay and sandy colour palette of our Christmas decorations.

These are cute paper tree decorations that I’ve laid along the middle of the table,
mixing up the heights with some timber footed trays.

A tablecloth or runner will elevate a table setting and is another “must have” on our Christmas table. Let’s face it, most meals throughout the year I would prefer not to have a tablecloth as my kids are extremely messy and it’s another thing to wash.

But Christmas is a day to make sure you pull out ALL the special things and embrace the good “chaos” of having a house full of people.

Top styling tips

  • Before rushing out to purchase new tableware and decorations, have a look around the home and see what you have to work with – aim to think outside the box when doing this and use the things you find as inspiration. Vintage vessels, shells, old Christmas ornaments, the possibilities are endless.

  • Use kitchen items like timber trays, cake stands or chopping boards to vary the heights of vases and serving bowls to create a layered table-scape.

  • Use local foliage or in season blooms to guide your colour palette. We have a beautiful Banksia tree that I love using branches from to style the table.

  • Create atmosphere using a signature scented candle, and light ahead of guests arriving to ensure the scent and ambience is set.

Guest gifts - yay or nay?

Definitely a yay. If there’s ever a year to spoil your family and loved ones, it’s this year! The bonus is, you can use the gifts or favours as part of your table styling.

The Sweet Pea & Jasmine Bon Bon body butters are the perfect example of this, and unlike a traditional Bon Bon – it’s a gift that your guest will actually be able to use!

What fragrance will you be burning on Christmas Day?

My top pick is Red Berries & Peony, it's such a beautiful, fresh scent with so much nostalgia around Summer and shared meals.
