“Drawing on my own Hungarian immigrant family’s past and the rich, centuries old history of Hungarian perfumery and candle making, Ecoya is founded on the idea of creating home fragrance and body care products using only natural bases and the finest fragrance and essential oils. We are based in Botany Bay which is both the birthplace of Australia and the refuge where my grandfather brought his family after escaping from Hungary, soon after World War II. It’s an incredibly beautiful place and one I try and teach my own children to never take for granted.

We are essentially a family run business, which at times can be both a blessing and a curse, we love each other very much but you could be forgiven for thinking differently if you ever saw us arguing about candles and politics around the dinner table!”

“The current Ecoya fragrance range is known internally as our ‘Catalogue of Passion’. Twelve separate and distinct fragrances playing on the different moods experienced by all of us in our day to day lives from contemplative serenity to more energetic and playful ‘two person interaction’. Interestingly, we’ve found different people’s emotions react quite differently to each fragrance and all of us here at Ecoya have a personal favourite we like to champion. Craig is completely sold on Sinful Harmony even though I think Divine Affair is far superior.”

“The ‘fragrance throw’ of a candle is the distance away from the flame that the scent distributes. It may seem like an unimportant thing but we actually spent countless hours testing different oil consistencies and fragrance strengths before we created a ‘throw’ that was inline with the expectations we had for the new Ecoya range. The trick is to get the scent spread as wide as possible with minimal amount of variance in scent, and even if I say so myself, I think we did a pretty good job.”

“I spend a good deal of time out and about talking to interior designers and store owners to try and figure out what people are wanting for their homes for 2008/2009. So I get to see a lot of the places different people live in. There’s always plenty of new looks coming through, and some of these places are absolutely amazing and some are just crazy and insane. But it’s my job to then design the Ecoya range so it has a product to fit each environment — and if you saw some of these places you’d realise that’s not an easy job!”
